Seoul boasts one of the most efficient and user-friendly public transportation systems in the world. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned explorer, here’s your easy-to-follow guide to navigating the city's subways, buses, taxis, and even bicycles. Let's dive in!

Seoul Subway System
The Lines You Need to Know: The Seoul subway system is extensive, with key lines including Line 1, which connects many central areas, and the famous Line 2 – the circular line that loops around the city. Other major lines offer access to specific districts, making it simple to get around.
T-money Card: Grab a T-money card as soon as you arrive. This little wonder works on both the subway and buses, making your travel seamless and hassle-free.
Navigating the Subway:
Maps and Apps: Subway maps are available in English, and you can plan your journey with handy apps like KakaoMetro, which offers real-time updates on routes and train schedules.
Exiting the Station: Don’t forget to check your destination exit on the map; Seoul’s stations can be vast, so knowing which exit to take can save you a good deal of walking.
Subway Etiquette:
Stand in line and let passengers exit before you board.
Keep conversations soft – the atmosphere is meant to be calm and respectful.
Always offer your seat to the elderly or those who might need it more.
Buses
Types of Buses: Seoul’s bus system is colour-coded:
Blue buses connect major subway stations.
Green buses serve neighbourhoods and local areas.
Yellow buses operate in certain zones, and
Red buses cover longer distances, including the city outskirts.
Using the T-money Card on Buses: Just like on the subway, tap your T-money card on the reader when boarding a bus. Bus stops display the bus numbers, so it's easy to match your destination with the correct bus.
Transfers and Discounts: The system allows for seamless transfers between subways and buses, often with discounted fares if you switch modes within a set time period.
Taxis
Hailing a Cab: Taxis in Seoul are a great option, especially if you're heading to destinations not easily reached by public transport – think Namsan Seoul Tower or some of the more remote neighbourhoods.
Useful Apps: Use KakaoTaxi or T-map Taxi apps to hail a cab quickly. These apps also let you pay via credit card or cash, which is super convenient.
Traffic Tips: Taxis are reasonably priced, but try to avoid rush hour if you can, as the city can get pretty congested.
Bicycles and Walking
Seoul Bike System: For a bit of fun and fresh air, why not try the Seoul Bike system? Renting and returning bikes is simple, and it’s brilliant for short trips around spots like Hangang Park or Seoul Forest.
Walking Around: Many parts of Seoul, especially places like Insadong and Myeongdong, are best explored on foot. Walking is a great way to discover hidden gems and to really soak up the local vibe.
In a Nutshell
Seoul’s public transport is a real treat – efficient, affordable, and easy to use. Whether you’re zipping around by subway, hopping on a bus, grabbing a taxi, or cycling your way through the city, you’re all set for a brilliant time. So, sort out that T-money card, lace up your trainers, and get ready to explore Seoul like a local!
